Midshire presents awards to local college’s successful students

Office technology sales and service provider Midshire® shows its continued support for The Cheadle and Marple College Network, by sponsoring and presenting awards to students at a ‘Class of 2016’ awards evening.

The awards evening was held at Edgeley Park on the 19th of December last year. Over 60 awards were given to students across a wide range of subject areas, including: ICT A Levels, Vocational qualifications, and Choices Awards.

Midshire’s Operations Manager, Debbie Wilson was invited to present several awards on the evening, some of which went to students with learning difficulties.

The Cheadle & Marple College Network’s Quality and Employer Engagement Manager, Jan Hill comments: “At the Cheadle and Marple College Network one of our strategic priorities is to ensure that our students meet or exceed their potential and are able to progress with confidence into further education and employment.

“We value highly the working relationships we have with employers, the support our employers offer and the sponsorship provided to enable us to celebrate the success of our students.

She continues: “We actively embrace all opportunities for our students to experience the world of work, develop their personal skills and appreciate the career journeys individuals have taken to reach their current positions.”

Unfortunately, Debbie could not attend the awards evening, instead visiting the college on the 31st of January 2017 to present awards to some of the establishment’s students.

Debbie comments: “We got to know both The Cheadle College
and Marple Sixth Form College a few years ago through their Work Placement Coordinator, Maggie Cockbain. She approached us after she heard about our work towards the development and training of young people, Midshire has since provided several work experience opportunities for their students.

“Sadly, I was taken ill on the day of the awards and was unable to attend. I still really wanted to meet the students and present them with their awards in person, so I went at a later date and took some photos with the students, there were smiles all around.”

Midshire has been the recipient of the Supporting Young People silver award from Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council for a second consecutive year. The award recognises businesses that actively help young people between the ages of 14 and 19 progress professionally into whatever avenue they wish to take.

This year Midshire aims to achieve gold, pledging to take more students from Cheadle & Marple colleges, expanding placements into the company’s Information Technology, and Telesales departments.
