EU ‘Roam like at Home’
It all sounds very familiar. It can be a common mistake when not switching off your mobile data when travelling.
However, as of June 15th 2017, roaming charges have been scrapped within the EU, meaning you can use your mobile as you wish at no extra cost, as if you were back home in the UK.
New EU Legislation
‘Roam like at Home’ is a new EU legislation aimed at ensuring mobile users are protected, irrespective of where they are travelling in the EU. This new legislation is now active across ALL mobile networks, whether you use a business or personal mobile.
In a statement the European Commission said: “Each time a European citizen crossed an EU border, be it for holidays, work, studies or just for a day, they had to worry about using their mobile phones and a high phone bill from the roaming charges when they came home.”
How will this benefit me
Mobile users no longer have to worry about racking up huge phone bills when visiting the European Union. Regular travellers can use their mobile exactly the same as they do in the UK (Calls, texts and Data usage), at no extra cost.
A word of warning
Mobile users should still be aware that the new EU Legislation only covers mobile usage WITHIN the EU. This means, there will be no change when making international calls and texts between the UK and the EU. In this circumstance, Midshire have you covered with a range of cost saving international tariffs and call bundle bolt ons.
