Coronation Street wins in netball court clash

The Midshire Business Systems-sponsored Manchester Thunder Netball match, which included stars from Coronation Street and Emmerdale, was a roaring success this weekend.

The soap stars were joined by players from Thunder Netball and were pitted against each other in an incredibly close match on Sunday 23rd September 2013.

Samia Ghadie (Maria Connor), Alison King (Carla Connor) and Katy Cavanagh (Julie Carp) made up the Coronation Street team, while Charley Webb (Debbie Dingle), Megan Macey (Gaynor Faye), Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) and Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) played on the opposing Emmerdale team.

And, with the crowd on the edge of their seats, team captain Katy Cavanagh led Team Corrie to victory, beating Team Emmerdale with 33-28.

In the run-up to the match, Midshire gave away two VIP tickets over social media. Phil Montgomery won the competition and attended the match with his 15-year-old daughter, who is a huge netball fan and even plays for her local women’s team.

The Soap Star Charity Netball Match was held in honour of ITV’s Text Santa charity, with all proceeds from the ticket sales going towards the six charities that are included in this network. They include Age UK, Barnardo’s, BeatBullying, British Heart Foundation, Clic Sargent and Help the Hospices.

Julian Stafford, Midshire’s MD, said: “It was great for Midshire to be involved in such a positive event. To see all the Stars give up so much of their time to train for the event was amazing.

“The effort put in by both Manchester Thunder and Yorkshire Jets to pull this event off and raise such a large sum is truly inspiring. Hopefully we can make it an annual event.”

Midshire was the principal sponsor for the charity match. The company specialises in managed print services, with printer and photocopier rental available for businesses in Manchester, Stockport and Manchester. Midshire sponsors a number of sports teams, including Macclesfield Town Juniors FC, Manchester Giants, Oldham Netball Club and England Netball.
